Birthdates Fieldby Jenananda ()The question is, what's the best way to create a birthdate in a template? I would like to specify one or more fields as birthdates for the primary and spouse but find when I set it up as a date field, it does not allow me to enter my own date but goes to the calendar which won't allow me to enter a date prior to 2005. Just hoping there is an easy solution. |
There are a couple of options here.
The easiest one is to use the calendar/date field. You want to celebrate/remember the ANNIVERSARY of their birth, so the actually starting year is less important (for example, do you want to broadcast your age to everyone?). So in this case January 7, 1963 is about the same as January 7, 2006 because the important part is the "January 7" part.
However, if the birth year part IS important, then set up a plain jane text field. Enter birth as text. Enter the date text in a consistent format like MM.DD.YYYY or YYYY.MM.DD to aid in the category and column sorting process.
Shameless plug: The next release of Desktop Office Manager (8.0?) has Contacts and one of the pre-defined fields is Birthdate.
